"...And the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"

We all have days when we we want to hurl stones at our circumstance...Today was one of those days. On the way to the hospital, Jon and I waded through the logic that "this might not be the best choice". We imagined turning our cheek from the next few rounds of chemotherapy, throwing our hands in the air, and going on a bike ride. What a relief this would bring...for a few seconds.

When the oncologist walked in the office, Jon raised one eyebrow and said, "I am not at peace with this...signing up for toxic sludge that carries a 1% risk of secondary cancer --just in case there are a few rogue cells." I sat, arms-folded, in a similar defensive posture....it is excruciating to imagine Jon on chemo... especially after a full recovery....

Dr. P beautifully empathized with our questions but assured us that this choice is prudent, necessary, and could save Jon's life.

The Doxifos began this afternoon and will continue through thursday.  Jon appreciates all words of encouragement and gestures of support. This leg of the journey is a bit isolating...and he is leaning on his crew.

In prayer...

  2. Chemo is a brutal war on your body, no doubt. I pray that it will be doing its job to rid Jon's body of any stray cells, and that you all will have what you need, in body and soul, to get through it.

  6. Jon, we claim this prayer for you:

    Flood the path with light,
    turn Jon's eyes to where the skies are full of promise;
    tune his heart to brave music;
    give him the sense of comradeship
    with heroes and saints of every age;

    and so quicken his spirit
    that he may be able to encourage
    the souls of all who journey with him
    on the road of life,
    to your honor and glory.

    Let Jon's Soul take refuge.

    Amen

  9. Go get 'em Jon! I almost feel sorry for your cancer cells, having picked such a tough guy to mess with. They don't stand a chance-go after them like the Black Knight in the Holy Grail. NO MERCY! Climbing Baldy will seem like a Hot Fudge Sundae after this, which we'll get after where done climbing Baldy. Biking or running? BOTH!

    Grrrr,

    YMC

  10. Still holding you all in prayer as the chemo infusions wrap up this afternoon; may it do what it is supposed to do and then begone from Jon's system!
